Day in three words: The lazy goodbye
Rebecca and I spent a very relaxed couple of days in our little apartment, doing various jobs but also resting and spending time together before we go our separate ways. After Eldoret Rebecca is heading southwest towards Lake Victoria where she is helping out on a sort of fish farm* on a beautiful island for a couple of weeks. I’m heading northwest for some gnarly dirt road action round Mt Elgon, then back southwest towards Kampala, where I’ll be spending a couple of weeks helping out at IHCC. The airbnb was lovely, it felt like we had a little home of our own and Denue and Pamela were constantly helpful and brought delicious breakfasts each day.
A few things that we did:
-Spent some time fiddling with Maggie to get rid of the numerous rattles and squeaks that had appeared and were driving me mad. This mainly involved putting small bits of inner tube rubber everywhere and tightening things up. IT WORKED
-Played cards with Denue’s 12(ish) year old brother Dylan, who invented a game then invented some rules for the game to try and help himself win, not realising that this trapped the game in an infinite loop. We are still playing.
-Went to an Indian restaurant and rampantly over ordered both (delicious) food and beer.
-Visited the fanciest supermarket since...Switzerland? It was honestly at Waitrose levels. I went crazy even though the only thing on my shopping list was coconut milk and ended up with way, way too much food.
-Went back to the same Indian restaurant and rampantly over ordered both (delicious) food and beer again. Discovered Tusker Ale, which I had been ignoring on menus for weeks, is actually pretty tasty. -Took takeaway beers from Indian restaurant, which by this point loved us, on the solemn promise that we would bring the many many bottles back the next day. Watched the six nations in bed whilst feeling very full yet still drinking our way through the beers.
Despite being, on paper, the most boring couple of days in a long time, these are already some of my fondest memories of the trip.
*Details are as yet unclear
